Machine Needles and Feet

Labours Of Love Heirloom Sewing Supplies

Heirloom Sewing w Smocking w Fine Embroidery w Teddy Bear Supplies

As many of you know I'm a big fan of Schmetz Sewing Machine Needles. In fact my book Modern Machine Techniques shows you how to use some of the more "unusual" needles that they have. I was selected as one of the eleven designers to be in their Designer Portfolio. I guess I can officially say I'm a "Schmetz Girl". They have a wonderful brochure called the ABC Pocket Guide that you can download from here. I highly recommend that you have a copy in your sewing room, it's a great refrence. You can also visit the Schmetz web site here.

Schmetz Double Eye Needle, yup, two eyes, on one needle!. (Item #DEN)
These are the newest needles from Schmetz. One needle with a double eye. You thread your machine for twin needles using two spools of thread, but when you thread the needle, there are two eyes. So one thread goes in the top eye, the other in the bottom eye. Go through the stitches you have on your machine to see the effect you will get! (Size 80/12) 5 needles per card.

Price:  Canadian $5.49

Schmetz Universal Point Machine Needles, my Mom always told me to use the best! (Item #UPN)
I use Schmetz needles because they are an excellent quality. These fit the majority of machines. I use the 60/8 for fine heirloom sewing, 70/10 for light weight fabrics, 80/12 for quilting cottons and medium weight fabrics. (Specify size) 5 needles per card.

Price:  Canadian $3.10

Schmetz Microtex Sharp Machine Needles, considered "deluxe" for heirloom sewing. (Item #MSN)
These needles are one step up from Universal Needles for your heirloom sewing. They have a sharp point for silk, batiste and micro fiber fabrics. (Size 60/8) 5 needles per card.

Price:  Canadian $3.95

Twin Needles (Item # TN)
Used to make perfect pintucks or to turn simple decorative stitches into designer details. It just isn't heirloom without pintucks to give it "that" look. Use the 1.6/70 to make curved and pointed pintucks without any puckers, especially beautiful on children's wear. I like the 2.5/80 for my nighties, lingerie and blouses. (Specify 1.6/70 or 2.5/80) 1 per card, 3.99 each.
Price:  Canadian $3.70
Size:

Triple Needle (Item # TTN)
Yes, a triple needle and they're lots of fun. Use for tucks and all types of wonderful top and decorative stitching. Your top stitching will never be uneven again and don't tell how you got it so even, just smile and say thanks. :) Size 3.0/80, 1 per card, 6.69 each.

Price:  Canadian $6.20

Single Wing Needle (Item # WN)
These needles have "wings" which create holes in the fabric that resemble entredeux or hand done hem stitching. Use a zig-zag or simple decorative stitch with the single wing needle. Phillip Pepper's book "Peppering" is an excellent resource for using this and the double wing needle to their fullest.

Price:  Canadian $3.30

Double Wing Needle (Item # DWN)

These needles have "wings" which create holes in the fabric that resemble entredeux or hand done hem stitching. Use a straight stitch with the double wing needle . Debra's new Book Modern Machine Techniques is an excellent resource for using this and the single wing needle to their fullest.

Price:  Canadian $6.10

The Fancy Needle Set (Item # FNS)
This needle set includes all of Debra's favorites as mentioned in her new book Modern Machine Techniques. It contains a 1.6/70 twin needle (the one you can turn corners with without a pucker), a triple needle, a wing needle, and a double wing needle. This set would normally sell for $19.30 individually, but save 10% as a set!

The NeedlePack, A Caddy for Machine Needles (Item #NP)

I love this thing! In my sewing room it's thumb tacked right in front of my machine on the bulletin board! (shown)

Sort and store machine needles with this compact caddy with snap closure for new, used, and in use machine needles. Sort up to 108 used needles by type and size, store up to 12 new needle packs, and tag needles in use. Customize your NeedlePack by identifying single needles in the additional write-in spaces. Closed measurements 5-3/4" x 4-5/8"; open measurements 5-3/4" x 12". Includes 5 needles. Finally a solution of those of us who change their needle constantly from one type of fabric to another and then don't know what's used and what's not!
